My perception was that the first version sounded a bit too dull, not expressive enough, and in certain areas not bright enough. But I can understand the criticism with regards to the 2nd version, which has been processed much more.

I do have to say that I have used very very little compression, but a lot was changed with EQ-ing it probably I over-EQ-ed it. I agree though that the genre of this song doesn’t allow it to be too over processed as it is more like a ballad type of song.
